Depending on size and maturity, some 12-year-olds are eligible to train in our Teens Classes.

Why Jiu Jitsu for Youth?

Beyond the physical benefits like improved coordination, balance, and strength, Jiu Jitsu instills discipline, focus, and perseverance - which are all essential qualities that contribute to academic and personal success. Through the repetitive nature of training and the challenge of mastering techniques, youth develop resilience and a growth mindset, learning to overcome obstacles both on and off the mat. Jiu Jitsu also fosters self-confidence and self-esteem as youth progress in their skills and achieve milestones, empowering them to face challenges with courage and determination. Training at the Stronghold allows youth to practice social skills and teamwork, as youth interact with peers, build friendships, and learn to respect and support one another in a collaborative environment.

Youth Self Defense

Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that is focused on technique rather than strength. Technique allows a smaller, weaker individual to overcome a bigger, stronger opponent. This makes it a very useful skill for kids.

Learning self-defense equips youth with essential skills and knowledge to protect themselves in various situations, whether at school, in public spaces, or online. Through age-appropriate training, youth learn to recognize potential threats, assert boundaries, and seek help when needed. Self-defense education also emphasizes the importance of verbal communication, de-escalation techniques, and understanding personal space, fostering conflict resolution skills and empathy.

By instilling confidence and resilience, youth self-defense empowers children to navigate the world with awareness, assertiveness, and a sense of agency over their own safety. Moreover, it provides a foundation for building healthy relationships, setting boundaries, and advocating for themselves throughout their lives.
