Toddler Jiu Jitsu

Ages 3-5

Our toddler program is geared for students ages 3-5 year olds. The class is 45 minutes. We strive to teach your child self defense, body awareness and Jiu Jitsu fundamentals in a fun and friendly environment.

Why Jiu Jitsu for toddlers?

Beyond the physical benefits like improved coordination, balance, and strength, Jiu Jitsu fosters essential cognitive and emotional development. Through playful engagement and structured practice, toddlers learn discipline, patience, and respect for others—skills that lay a strong foundation for social interaction and self-regulation. Moreover, Jiu Jitsu teaches problem-solving and adaptability, empowering toddlers to navigate challenges both on and off the mat. The practice instills confidence and resilience as they gradually master techniques and overcome obstacles, nurturing a positive self-image. Overall, Jiu Jitsu offers toddlers a holistic platform for growth, equipping them with invaluable life skills early on.

  • Safety is our number one goal for all classes at the Stronghold. Jiu Jitsu is also known as the gentle art and considered to be one of the safest type of martial arts. Our instructor to student ratio for toddler class is kept low to ensure proper attention to each student.

  • In these classes, toddlers engage in age-appropriate activities that challenge them physically and mentally, gradually pushing their limits in a supportive environment. Through mastering basic techniques and overcoming obstacles, toddlers experience a tangible sense of achievement, boosting their self-esteem. Our instructors often emphasize positive reinforcement and encouragement, celebrating each small success, which helps toddlers develop a positive self-image and belief in their abilities.

  • Jiu Jitsu is unique from other sports because it is very individual, but it is also a team sport. We learn from our training partners and instructors. We also compete together, and support each other in tournaments.

Toddler Self Defense

Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that is focused on technique rather than strength. Technique allows a smaller, weaker individual to overcome a bigger, stronger opponent. This makes it a very useful skill for kids.

Understanding self-defense is essential for toddlers as it equips them with the knowledge and confidence to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations. While we strive to create safe environments for children, the reality is that they may encounter threatening scenarios. Teaching toddlers basic self-defense empowers them to recognize danger signals, assert boundaries, and respond effectively if needed. Beyond physical techniques, self-defense education instills assertiveness, critical thinking, and situational awareness, fostering a sense of autonomy and resilience. By empowering toddlers with the tools to safeguard themselves, we provide them with a valuable life skill that promotes personal safety and confidence in navigating the world.
